A graphical representation of viscosity as a function of shear rate. It identifies the rheological behavior of a fluid: Newtonian (constant viscosity), shear-thickening, shear-thinning(viscosity decreases with increasing shear), or threshold. A fundamental tool in any rheological characterization, it is generally the first test performed on a new material.
