A curve obtained by measuring viscosity during a rise and then a fall in shear rate. The area between the two curves quantifies the thixotropic behavior: the larger the area, the slower the restructuring. A rapid method for evaluating thixotropy in industrial quality control of paints, creams, and suspensions.
