A set of measurements used to fully characterize the mechanical behavior of a material subjected to stress or deformation: viscosity, viscoelasticity, yield point, thixotropy, extensional behavior, etc. Performed in the laboratory using a rotational, capillary, or extensional rheometer, depending on the materials and applications.
