The minimum stress that must be applied to a material to initiate flow. Below this value, the material deforms elastically. Above it, the material flows. This is a fundamental parameter, particularly for storage stability (prevention of sedimentation), application behavior, and the sizing of industrial pumps. It is measured by amplitude sweep (oscillations) or shear/stress sweep (flow).
